چکیده

The Pierre Auger Observatory, designed to detect extensive air showers (EAS) generated by ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays, proved be a unique instrument study phenomena associated with atmospheric electricity: Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) and ELVES. TGFs are the most explosive events emitted thunderstorms have usually been observed spacecraft, but surface detector has collected morphology very different from that of EAS, likely downward TGFs. Ground observations crucial addition detection in space, as detectors closer TGF sources, single event can several complementary instruments. In this talk, I will discuss comparison already data simulations well ongoing work adapt data-taking system also status ELVES, upper optical thunderstorms, which we detected since 2013 fluorescence detectors. We recorded unprecedented time space resolution both double latter being classified using radial variation gap photon flux ratio between flashes. classification algorithms were improved detecting ELVES lightning thanks three High Elevation Telescopes, observe night sky an enhanced at elevation angles 30 60 degrees.

The importance of atmospheric monitoring at the Pierre Auger Observatory

The Pierre Auger Observatory is an ultra-high energy cosmic ray experiment employing a giant surface array of particle detectors together with telescopes to image fluorescence light from extensive air showers in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is the medium in which the incoming cosmic rays deposit their energy, and as a result we must monitor the characteristics of the atmosphere, including its...

Atmospheric ”Super Test Beam” for the Pierre Auger Observatory

We present results from 200 hours of operation of an atmospheric super test beam system developed for the Pierre Auger Observatory. The approximate optical equivalence is that of a 100 EeV air shower. This new system combines a Raman backscatter LIDAR receiver with a calibrated pulsed UV laser system to generate a test beam in which the number of photons in the beam can be determined at ground ...

Atmospheric Monitoring at the Pierre Auger Observatory – Status and Update

Calorimetric measurements of extensive air showers are performed with the fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. To correct these measurements for the effects introduced by atmospheric fluctuations, the Observatory operates several instruments to record atmospheric conditions across and above the detector site. New developments have been made in the study of the aerosol optical ...

Anisotropy Studies with the Pierre Auger Observatory

An anisotropy signal for the arrival directions of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR) of more than 99% confidence level was established using data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory. Cosmic rays with energy above ∼ 6 × 10 eV show a correlation with the positions of extragalactic nearby active galactic nuclei (AGN), being maximum for sources at less than ∼100 Mpc and angular separation...

Pierre Auger Observatory: Status Report

The Pierre Auger Observatory is a large international effort to provide measurements of extensive air showers (EAS) initiated in the upper atmosphere by cosmic rays with energies above 10 eV , the Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR’s). The explanations for the origin, acceleration processes and composition of the UHECR’s face theoretical and experimental difficulties, due to the extremely low...
